One of the most beautiful Fall mushrooms to be found in my opinion are Turkey Tail (Trametes versicolor). Showing strong antibacterial and antiviral qualities, these are a regular seasonal go-to for my family. As soon as school starts, my son is on these and Chaga on a regular basis to keep colds and flus at bay. Most medicinal mushrooms are immunomodulating, which means they don't overstimulate or suppress the immune system. Rather, they bring it into balance so that it can fight most effectively. Good news for folks who deal with an over- or under-active immune system, as most can be safely used by a wide range of people.
 
Turkey Tail also has strong anti-cancer benefits and is commonly used in tandem with chemotherapy in order to increase effectiveness and curtail the effects of the treatments. It is used for a range of conditions, including in diabetes management and systemic inflammation issues. It has an anti-inflammatory effect on the gut and contains prebiotic compounds which help promote a healthy bacterial balance.
